The Rules Revisited I’ve dated countless women and it has always amazed me how little they know about men. If nothing else, this blog is an outlet for voicing my astonishment at the typical female’s ignorance of the male mindset. At most, it is a reliable source of advice for women who want to improve their chances with the opposite sex. Saturday, February 23, Why You Can’t Get the Men You Want Most women who complain that they “don’t get any attention from men” actually mean that they don’t get attention from the men they want. Women tend to be aware of and rate their looks fairly accurately. I know this because a lot of readers send me pictures saying “I think I am an X out of 10 , can you tell me what I really am? So why would they set the bar so much higher than what they know they can get? And though I agree that this happens, it doesn’t capture the whole picture. Women just aren’t that easily deceived about their own physical attractiveness. It shouldn’t be surprising, then, that the problem is primarily an internal one.
Insights from the Longest Longitudinal Study on Men Ever Conducted Why do two men from very similar socioeconomic and educational backgrounds sometimes take very different life paths? The men selected were healthy in body and mind, and deemed likely to capitalize on their potential and become successful adults. While many of them came from well-off families, some were intelligent students who had been plucked from poor households and given full scholarships.
They were given physicals and thorough psychological evaluations; researchers visited their homes to interview their parents, as well as three generations of relatives; each year the men filled out an exhaustive questionnaire that inquired about numerous aspects of their health, habits, family, political views, career, and marriage; and every years, the men were interviewed face-to-face.
This research project, known as the Grant Study, continues today, more than 75 years after its inception. Having been extended numerous times, it has become one of the longest longitudinal studies ever conducted.
If you’ve ever been with someone from a different socioeconomic background, please share your story in the DropBox below for a chance to be featured in an upcoming BuzzFeed Community post or video.
Posted on October 2, by Scott Alexander I. A few years ago I had lunch with another psychiatrist-in-training and realized we had totally different experiences with psychotherapy. We both got the same types of cases. We were both practicing the same kinds of therapy. We were both in the same training program, studying under the same teachers. But our experiences were totally different.
In particular, all her patients had dramatic emotional meltdowns, and all my patients gave calm and considered analyses of their problems, as if they were lecturing on a particularly boring episode from 19th-century Norwegian history. I wish I could get my patients to have dramatic emotional meltdowns. As per the textbooks, there should be a climactic moment where the patient identifies me with their father, then screams at me that I ruined their childhood, then breaks down crying and realizes that she loved her father all along, then???
I never got that. I mean, I am uncomfortable with dramatic expressions of emotion. I was just surprised he noticed it. But any improvement I made was incremental at best.

How blessed am I- or I would not have picked up the book to read and discover your website. Its funny, but the thought came to me to celebrate my birthday with all of you- who are also 70 and beyond…A sisterhood for sure. I kind of feel like that- I want to go on living even after my death. And I realize that the best way to do that is to live well, making beautiful memories with every person who touches my day…open to the imprint that they make upon me, and humbly grateful that I can- in some way- also create an imprint of memory upon them.
I told my friends that I did not want any birthday gifts this year- I have many scarves, books, bracelets, candles, figurines of Angels and so on- and I cherish them all- but do not really need any more…I told them what I wanted from them is to spend time with them- that would be the best gift ever. I told them that they have days in which to plan something with me for this birthday year- a breakfast, lunch or dinner at a local dinner, a trip to the ocean, a day in the city, a trip to the gardens, a spiritual workshop, a concert etc.

Puberty Upper body of a teenage boy. The structure has changed to resemble an adult form. Puberty is a period of several years in which rapid physical growth and psychological changes occur, culminating in sexual maturity. The average age of onset of puberty is at 11 for girls and 12 for boys. Hormones play an organizational role, priming the body to behave in a certain way once puberty begins, and an active role, referring to changes in hormones during adolescence that trigger behavioral and physical changes.
It is the stage of life characterized by the appearance and development of secondary sex characteristics for example, a deeper voice and larger adam’s apple in boys, and development of breasts and more curved and prominent hips in girls and a strong shift in hormonal balance towards an adult state. This is triggered by the pituitary gland , which secretes a surge of hormonal agents into the blood stream, initiating a chain reaction to occur.
The male and female gonads are subsequently activated, which puts them into a state of rapid growth and development; the triggered gonads now commence the mass production of the necessary chemicals. The testes primarily release testosterone , and the ovaries predominantly dispense estrogen. The production of these hormones increases gradually until sexual maturation is met.

Domestic violence also called intimate partner violence IPV , domestic abuse or relationship abuse is a pattern of behaviors used by one partner to maintain power and control over another partner in an intimate relationship. Domestic violence does not discriminate. Anyone of any race, age, sexual orientation, religion or gender can be a victim — or perpetrator — of domestic violence.
It can happen to people who are married, living together or who are dating. It affects people of all socioeconomic backgrounds and education levels. Domestic violence includes behaviors that physically harm, arouse fear, prevent a partner from doing what they wish or force them to behave in ways they do not want. It includes the use of physical and sexual violence, threats and intimidation, emotional abuse and economic deprivation.
